Dr. James Gillen was born in Puerto Rico and migrated to Jacksonville, Florida when he was 12 years old. Growing up, he knew he wanted to be a veterinarian since it included two of his favorite things: animals and humans. He earned his bachelor's degree from Florida State University and then worked as a veterinary technician, SAT/ACT tutor, and high school teacher before enrolling at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019.
