Lillian started Non-Hostile Family Law with the intention of providing a low-cost civil way to go through the divorce process. Joel, as Lillian, continues the practice empowering people with legal knowledge so that they can make their own decisions.

In a Non-Hostile approach to law, Joel Overlund, attorney/mediator and counselor of the law since 1987, relies upon his expertise in family law and mediation to assist parties in coming to mutually satisfying solutions amidst difficult circumstances. This practice of law strictly deviates from the traditional litigation process, providing parties the option to avoid the strenuous emotional and monetary cost of litigation. Studies have shown that those children thrive when there is a non-hostile approach used by parents during the dissolution process.

Non-Hostile Family Law recognizes that the family continues long after the end of the marriage. Normally, the divorce process takes two to three months.
