Virginia Fisheries and Aquatic Wildlife Center (VFAWC) is a cooperative freshwater mussel hatchery between the Virginia’s Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). VFAWC is located at USFWS Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery in Charles City, Virginia. The facility is nestled in the rural setting of Virginia’s historic tidewater plantation country and offers an array of aquatic life. DGIF and USFWS opened VFAWC in 2007 to culture imperiled and declining freshwater mussel species for recovery and restoration.
